Library-Student Success Center (L-SSC)

Access is limited to Compton College, but we're here to help in many ways.

  • While the majority of student support services remain online, students may make an appointment to utilize the Student Health Center and Enrollment Services in Tartar Village. Walk-in services are available at the Library-Student Success Center, and the Bookstore is open for students and employees.
  • The majority of classes will remain online for Fall 2021 and Winter 2022. There will be limited in-person labs and classes on campus. Please refer to the class schedule for details.
  • Community members may use the track Monday-Friday, 4:00-9:00 a.m.
  • Visit the Compton College COVID-19 webpage for more information.

Please remember to follow these health and safety protocols:

  • Only employees, students, construction workers, and approved individuals may enter (and remain) on campus.
  • Students, please refer to the Student Information and Communications webpage for current Entry to Campus Protocol.
  • Face coverings are required on campus.

Located on the first floor of the 45,000-square-foot Library-Student Success Center (L-SSC) building, the Library provides print, audiovisual, multimedia and digital resources, research assistance, library tours and instruction orientations, and group study rooms. Supplemental research services include standalone library workshops and one-on-one research consultations with a librarian at the Reference Desk. WiFi and multiple outlets are available inside the Library and throughout the L-SSC building. 

The Student Success Center (SSC) is located on the second floor, where students have access to three drop-in tutorial centers: Academic Tutoring, the Reading/Writing Center, and the Math & Science Center. The Student Success Center also offers an Embedded Coach program, directed learning activities (DLAs), academic skills workshops (including Microsoft programs training), peer-led tutoring, and group study rooms. The multidisciplinary Computer Lab features 100 new computers with a variety of academic software for students to utilize for computer-aided learning, word processing and research.

The Library welcomes students, faculty, and staff on campus. Visitors must wear masks at all times and practice safe social distancing inside the Library. Please review Library Conduct for complete Library policies.

How to Participate in Research Paper Bootcamp

  1. Attend two workshops (in Zoom).
  2. Visit with a tutor (in person or on Zoom).
  3. A Bootcamp survey will be emailed to you.
  4. Complete the survey to receive your Bootcamp certificate, a $25 Uber Eats gift card, and be entered to win a grand prize at the end of bootcamp!

NEW! On-Campus Library Services 

On-campus Library services are available for the Fall 2021 session!

Library services may also be reserved ahead online or by phone! 
Click on Book Library Services to:

  • Check out books at the Circulation Desk;
  • Check out course textbooks (reserves) at the Circulation Desk;
  • Use copy machines (black and white copies 10 cents each; color copies 50 cents each);
  • Get research help from a librarian at the Reference Desk;
  • Make general use of Library facilities and materials; limit one person per table.

Click on Book a Study Room to reserve one of six Library study rooms. 

  • Limit one person per study room.
  • Study rooms available for up to two hours. Time may be extended if no reservations are made for the room afterwards.
  • Click on Library Study Rooms for complete usage policies.

To claim your study room, go to the Circulation Desk inside the Library to verify your booking.

NEW! Return Library Materials

Items checked out from the Library may now be returned on campus.
Return your materials at the Circulation Desk inside the Library.

  • Lost or damaged items will be charged the cost of item and replacement processing. 
  • Student transcripts will be paused until charges are paid, and may impact ability to enroll in new classes.

NOTE: Laptops should be returned to Campus Police (located at campus entrance).

NEW! Films On Demand 

The Library now offers streaming video collections through Films On Demand! Films On Demand (FOD) provides over 48,000 full-length instructional and accessible films, documentaries, and video clips. For access to these collections off-campus or from a personal device, log in with Facts On File database username and password. Email library@compton.edu or Ask a Librarian for database passwords.

NEW! Canvas Library Resources Page

Visit the Library Resources page to explore the Compton College librarian-curated repository of library research and information literacy resources, all within Canvas! Browse by subject type (e.g. Copyright & Plagiarism, Information Evaluation, Periodicals & Databases, et al.) or resource type (videos, handouts, and websites). Design and content are subject to ongoing evaluation to ensure and improve quality and accessibility, and may be modified, replaced, or removed without notice. 

Log-in to your Canvas account and enter any course, then click on Library Resources on the course navigation menu to access this content. For more information about this resource, contact LChung@compton.edu or CHobbs@compton.edu
