Bookmark Design Contest - March 23-April 26

Currently enrolled Compton College students are invited to create and submit an original design for the Library's Annual Bookmark Design Contest! 

Prizes
First, second, and third place will receive Visa gift cards!
  • First Place: $75
  • Second Place: $50
  • Third Place: $25
Fourth and fifth place win college-branded prizes. The top five designs will also be printed as library bookmarks to promote the Library's resources and services, with student name and design featured prominently.

Eligibility

Currently enrolled Compton College students are eligible to participate. Students who are also employed as classified/certificated employees of Compton College are NOT eligible. However, Federal Work Study students are excluded from this and may enter the contest.

Criteria for Design

THEME
Create a bookmark design that expresses the theme: Compton College Coyotes

DIMENSIONS & ELEMENTS
The design must:
  • be within 2 inches x 7 inches
  • include additional 1/4 inch image bleed with crop marks to show where image will be cut off
  • use CMYK color mode
  • include your signature
FILE FORMAT
Prepare the design as a file saved in .JPG or .PDF format ONLY.

How to Submit Design

  1. Email your file to Library@compton.edu with the subject line "Bookmark Design Contest" between March 23 and April 26, 2026.
  2. In the body of your email, include your first and last name and your Compton College student ID number. 
Submissions sent before contest starts or after contest deadline will not be considered.
Limited to ONE design submission per student. 

Copyright & AI Information

Students are responsible for submitting original work. Derivative artwork from other licensed or copyrighted works NOT allowed and will be disqualified.
Artificial intelligence (AI) use restrictions:
  • Generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini, OpenAI, et al.) is NOT allowed. Designs containing or created through generative AI will be disqualified.
  • Non-generative AI use allowed (e.g. Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, et al.) with student disclosure of specific app/software used at time of submission.
Compton College is not liable for copyright violations committed by students. Submission of design permits its usage by Compton College for print, publication, and distribution. 
All design submissions are the intellectual property of the creating student.

Judging

ROUND 1: JURY PANEL
Student submissions will first be reviewed by Library staff to determine if they've met all design criteria outlined in the contest rules. Qualifying submissions will then be forwarded to a jury panel comprised of Compton College librarians and art faculty.

Using the judging criteria, the jury panel will choose the TOP FIVE designs on April 27.  On May 4, these designs will be announced on the Bookmark Contest Website, the Library homepage, the Canvas Library Resources Page, and at the Circulation Desk inside the Library for campus voting.

ROUND 2: CAMPUS VOTING
After the top five designs have been selected by the jury panel, they will be available to view on the Bookmark Contest Website, the Library homepage, Canvas Library Resources Page, and in person at the Circulation Desk inside the Library. 

Current Compton College students, faculty, and staff are invited to vote in person at the Circulation Desk inside the Library or through the online form (available on the above listed sites). Voting will be open May 4-10
You may vote ONCE for your favorite design.

Tallied votes will determine the winners. In case of a tie, the Dean of Student Success will cast the tiebreaking vote.
