Who May Apply

Compton College welcomes all students, regardless of their immigration status to pursue and achieve their educational goals. Enrollment is open to any person who has been admitted to Compton College and who meets course prerequisites, program requirements unless specifically exempted by statute. 

Compton College admits any student with a high school diploma; or have the recognized equivalent of a high school diploma; or are 18 years of age or older. Students under the age of 18, will be admitted if graduated from high school, or passed the California High School Certificate or Proficiency Test.

High School Students

Compton College may admit a special part-time, or special full-time student in grades kindergarten through 12 (K-12); who, in the opinion of the college president, may benefit from instruction.  Enrollment fees will be waived pursuant to Education Code Section 72252.  
K-12 students shall receive credit for completed courses.  If credit is used for high school graduation, attention is called to Section 1630, Title 5, California Administrative Code.
High school students should discuss their course selection and applicable degree /certificate pathway with their high school counselor and receive permission from their parent/legal guardian. Learn more about Dual Enrollment.


Non-Residents

Residents of other states and foreign students are subject to out-of-state fees (please see AB540 form for non-resident fees exception).  Students who attend private and parochial schools follow the same residence requirement.  

  • Step 1 Application

    All  students must complete an admissions application; including students with an absence of two consecutive primary terms: fall or spring semesters; excluding summer and winter terms.

    • You will receive an email with your Student ID # and further
    instructions within 2 business days excluding weekends and
    holidays.
    • Official transcripts from all accredited colleges and trade schools
    attended must be submitted to the Admissions & Records Office
    via email, transcripts@compton.edu, or in-person in the Student
    Services Building. Students applying for Advanced Placement (AP)
    credit must submit official copy of AP scores.

  • Step 2 Financial Aid

    Need help paying for college? Apply for financial aid by
    completing the:
    • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) www.fafsa.ed.gov/

  • Step 3 Orientation

    Orientation provides an introduction to academic
    programs and support services to help you succeed.
    Orientation is only offered online via the MyCompton portal.
    Students must have an activated Compton College student email
    account to access the online Orientation. For more information,
    call the Welcome Center, 310-900-1600, ext. 2765, send an email
    to welcomecenter@compton.edu, or visit the Welcome Center
    in-person in SSB-114A.

  • Step 4 Educational Planning

    Focus on your goal! Meet with a counselor and
    complete an educational plan to identify classes that
    are required to complete your certificate, degree or
    transfer program.
    • All students have the right to enroll in transfer-level English
    (ENGL 101) and math (MATH 110, 111, 120, 140, 150, and 170).

    placement.
    • If English is not your first language, then you should go through
    the ESL Self-Placement tool (available online at www.compton.edu)
    to learn which courses best match your skill levels.
    • Create an Educational Plan

  • Step 5 Register for Classes and Payment

    Ready to register for classes? Login to MyCompton
    and register for classes on or after your assigned
    Ticket Time (registration appointment).
    Registration is based on a priority system. Information is available
    online at www.compton.edu/admissions-aid/how-to-register.
