Faith Minor - Student Success

Faith Minor

Faith Minor graduated with an associate degree from Compton College in June 2018 and was selected as the student speaker for the 2018 Commencement Ceremony. She maintained a 4.0 GPA while attending Compton College and transferred to California State University, Dominguez Hills to pursue a degree in administration of justice. She plans to continue her studies at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and eventually pursue a career as a criminal attorney.

Minor's 2018 Compton College commencement message focused on prevailing through adversity. Having been placed in foster care at birth, she never knew anything about her birth parents. Her foster parents adopted her when she was in elementary school and she became the youngest of five children. She is the first among her five siblings to attend college. "My mother is my inspiration because she completed college while raising small children, has a successful career, and continues to help children as a foster parent." said Minor. "She is my role model."

When Minor enrolled at Compton College, she did not have a lot of confidence and credits her fellow students and professors with helping her believe in herself. "Compton College has a very supportive environment," said Minor. "Everyone is really positive, especially the professors and administration."

Regular visits to the counseling office and the Library-Student Success Center for tutoring services were all instrumental in Minor's success at Compton College. She offers this advice to future Compton College students: "Put as much as you can into your schoolwork and your career - give it your all! Because at the end of the day, we get back what we invest in ourselves."
