Athletics Scholarships

The Compton College Athletics Scholarship is available to Compton College student-athletes. There will be two scholarship recipients: one student from Compton College's men's athletics and one student from Compton College's women's athletics. Recipients will receive $1,000 each. This scholarship is open to all major areas of study. To qualify, recipients must: 

  • Be a current participant in Compton College's Athletics Program; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;
  • Applicants must be transferring to a four-year institution in the upcoming fall semester.
  • Upload a Personal Statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who       will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must provide proof of enrollment at a four-year college or university for the upcoming fall semester for their scholarship to be disbursed.

Business and Industrial Studies Scholarships 

The Compton College Business and Industrial Studies Scholarship is available to students majoring in business or industrial studies. Two students will each be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units).  To qualify all scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a Business or Industrial Studies major at Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

Child Development Scholarship

The Compton College Child Development Scholarship is designed for Child Development majors only. One student will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Child Development major at Compton College;
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;
  • Upload a Personal Statement (minimum 300 words);
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.

Computer Information Systems (CIS) Scholarship

The Compton College CIS Scholarship is designed for computer and information systems majors only. One student will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current CIS major at Compton College;
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;
  • Upload a Personal Statement (minimum 300 words);
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semester for the scholarship to be disbursed.

Fine Arts, Communication and Humanities Scholarships 

The Compton College Fine Arts, Communication and Humanities Scholarship is available to students majoring in fine arts, communication or humanities. Two students will each be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify all scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a Fine Arts, Communication or Humanities major at Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;

Fine Arts Scholarship

The Compton College Fine Arts Scholarship is designed for students majoring in Art. One student will be awarded $1,000. To qualify scholarship recipients must: 

  • Be a current Fine Arts major at Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a Personal Statement (minimum 300 words);

Health and Public Services Studies Scholarships

The Compton College Health and Public Services Scholarship is available to students majoring in health or public services-related fields. Two students will each be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current major in a Health or Public Services program at Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words);

Humanities Scholarship

The Compton College Humanities Scholarship is available to students majoring in Humanities. One student will be awarded $1,000. To qualify all scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Humanities major at Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;

Mathematics Scholarship

The Compton College Mathematics Scholarship is available to students majoring in mathematics. One student will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Mathematics major at Compton College;
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;
  • Upload a Personal Statement;
  • Upload a copy of their Compton College Academic Transcript (official or unofficial);
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.

Nursing Scholarships

The Compton College Nursing Scholarship is available to students currently majoring in Nursing. Two students will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Nursing major at Compton College;
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;
  • Upload a Personal Statement (minimum 300 words);
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.

Social Sciences Scholarships

The Compton College Social Sciences Scholarship is available to students majoring in social sciences. Two students will each be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify, all scholarship recipients must: 

  • Be a current Social Sciences major at Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarships

The Compton College Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship is available to students majoring in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. Two students will each be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current major in a STEM program at Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

UC Transfer Scholarships

The Compton College UC Transfer Scholarship is designed for transfer-seeking students who have been accepted into a University of California campus. Five students will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, all scholarship recipients must: 

  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 30 transferable units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must provide proof of enrollment at their UC destination for the upcoming fall semester for their scholarship to be disbursed. 

CSU Transfer Scholarships

The Compton College CSU Transfer Scholarship is designed for transfer-seeking students who have been accepted to a California State University. Five students will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, all scholarship recipients must: 

  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 30 transferable units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must provide proof of enrollment at their CSU destination for the upcoming fall semester for their scholarship to be disbursed.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Transfer Scholarships

The Compton College HBCU Transfer Scholarship is designed for current Compton College students who have been accepted to a four-year HBCU. Five students will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, all scholarship recipients must:

  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 30 transferable units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must provide proof of enrollment at their HBCU destination for the upcoming fall semester for their scholarship to be disbursed. 

Honors Transfer Program Scholarships

The Compton College Honors Transfer Program (HTP) Scholarship is designed for current Compton College HTP students. Three students will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, all scholarship recipients must: 

  • Be a current Compton College Honors Transfer Program student; 
  • Have a minimum 3.2 GPA or higher on all transferrable college coursework; 
  • Have completed at least 9 transferable units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a Personal Statement; 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • All applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

CalWORKs Scholarship

The Compton College CalWORKs Scholarship is available to current Compton College CalWORKs students. One student will be awarded $1,000. This scholarship is open to all major areas of study. To qualify all scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Compton College CalWORKs student;
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;
  • Upload a Personal Statement (minimum 300 words);
  • Upload a copy of their Compton College Academic Transcript (official or unofficial);
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.

CARE Scholarship

The Compton College CARE Scholarship is designed for students in Compton College's Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) Program. One student will be awarded $1,000. This scholarship is open to all major areas of study. To qualify all scholarship recipients must: 

  • Be a current Compton College CARE student;
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;
  • Upload a Personal Statement (minimum 330 words);
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 3 or more units for the fall and spring semester for the scholarship to be disbursed.

Dream Scholarships

The Compton College Dream Scholarship is available to current Compton College California Dream Act (or AB 540) students. This scholarship is open to all major areas of study. Five students will be awarded $1,000 (three part-time students (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and two full-time students (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Compton College student; 
  • Be DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) or TPS (Temporary Protected Status) eligible and have applied for or received DACA or TPS approval; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

EOPS Scholarship

The Compton College EOPS Scholarship is designed for Compton College EOPS students. This scholarship is open to all major. One student will be awarded $1,000. To qualify all scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current EOPS student;
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;
  • Upload a Personal Statement (minimum 300 words);
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming Fall Semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the Fall and Spring semester for the scholarship to be disbursed.

First-Generation Student Scholarships

The First-Generation Student Scholarship is designed for students whose parents/guardians never attended college. This scholarship is open to all majors. Two students will be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a first-generation college student;
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;
  • Upload a Personal Statement (minimum 300 words);
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semester for the scholarship to be disbursed.

Formerly Incarcerated Students in Transition (F.I.S.T.) Second Chance Scholarships

The F.I.S.T. Second Chance Scholarship is available to students participating in Compton College's F.I.S.T. program. Two students will be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a Compton College F.I.S.T. student; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement; 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

Jessica & Jose Villalobos Scholarships

The Jessica & Jose Villalobos Scholarship was created by Compton College Mathematics faculty member, Dr. Jose Villalobos. Each year, two STEM Club members will be awarded $1,000 each. To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current member of the Compton College STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Club; 
  • Demonstrate financial need (based on FAFSA application); 
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Applicants must be transferring to a four-year institution in the coming fall semester. 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload a copy of their Compton College academic transcript (official or unofficial); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.

Joyce Duren Scholarship

The Joyce Duren Scholarship is available to current EOPS or CARE students. One student will be awarded $300. To qualify, scholarship recipients must: 
 
  • Be a current Compton College EOPS/CARE Student  
  • Be enrolled in at least 9 units.  
  • Respond to the following prompts (minimum 300 words each):
  1. How do you use your voice to impact change in your community? Explain how your participation in the EOPS/CARE Program has helped you in this effort. 
  2. Describe areas in your life where you have overcome obstacles and how the EOPS/CARE program has helped you continue your educational journey/impacted your life.

    Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 12 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed.

Men’s Re-Entry Scholarships

The Men’s Re-Entry Scholarship is available to men aged 25 or older, who are new to Compton College or returning to Compton College after a prolonged absence. Three students will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, all scholarship recipients must: 

  • Be a man, aged 25 or older; 
  • Who is new or returning to Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed fewer than 15 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum of 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

NextUp Scholarship

The Compton College NextUp Scholarship is available to current Compton College students who are current or former foster youth. Two students will be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify, all scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Compton College NextUp student; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

Ophelia Scott Memorial Fund Scholarship

The Ophelia Scott Memorial Fund Scholarship is available to Compton College students entering their second semester of Compton College's Nursing Program. One student will be awarded $300. To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be entering their second semester of Compton College's Nursing Program; 
  • Have completed English 101; 
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload a copy of their Compton College academic transcript (official or unofficial); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 

Osher Scholarships

Compton College Osher Scholarships are available to students who are eligible for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG) regardless of their major. Scholarship recipients will be awarded up to $1,300 each. To qualify, scholarship recipients must: 

  • Be currently eligible for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG); 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 24 units at Compton College by Fall 2023; 
  • Upload a 300-word personal statement; 
  • Upload a copy of their Compton College academic transcript (official or unofficial); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 12 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

Pride Scholarships

The Compton College Pride Scholarship is available to current Compton College LGBTQ+ students. Two students will be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Compton College student;
  • Must self-identify as an LGBTQ+ individual; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

Robert Spiecker Memorial Scholarships

The Robert Spiecker Memorial Scholarship is available to students majoring in history, music, creative arts, fine arts, or performing arts. Two students will be awarded $500 each. To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be currently majoring in history, music, creative arts, fine arts or performing arts at Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.5 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload a copy of their Compton College academic transcript (official or unofficial); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 12 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed.

Service and Leadership Scholarships

The Student Leadership Scholarship is available to current Compton College students who are involved in campus leadership, such as the Associated Student Government, or participating in a service program such as the College Corps. Program. Three students will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, recipients must: 

  • Be a current member of the Associated Student Government or College Corps Program 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester 
  • Upload a Personal Statement; 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • All applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

Single-Parent Scholarship 

The Compton College Single-Parent Scholarship is available to current Compton College students who are single parents. Two students will be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify, all scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Compton College student; 
  • Be a single-parent; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

Special Resource Center (SRC) Scholarship

The Compton College Special Resource Center (SRC) Scholarship is designed for students that who are participating in the Compton College SRC program. This scholarship is open to all major areas of study. One student will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Compton College SRC student;
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester;

  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character.
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semester for the scholarship to be disbursed.

Veterans Scholarships

The Compton College Veterans Scholarship is designed for veterans, active-duty members of the armed forces and their dependents. Two students will be awarded $1,000 - one part-time student (currently enrolled in 11 units or less) and one full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 or more units). To qualify, all scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a current Compton College Veteran student; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed at least 6 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College Classified employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed. 

Women's Re-Entry Scholarships 

The Women’s Re-Entry Scholarship is available to women aged 25 or older, who are new to Compton College or returning to Compton College after a prolonged absence. Three students will be awarded $1,000. To qualify, scholarship recipients must: 

  • Be a female, aged 25 or older 
  • Who is new or returning to Compton College; 
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA; 
  • Have completed fewer than 15 units at Compton College as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester; 
  • Upload a personal statement (minimum of 300 words); 
  • Upload the name and email of a Compton College employee or faculty member who will complete an online questionnaire about your in-class achievements and your character. 
  • Applicants must be returning to Compton College in the upcoming fall semester. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units for the fall and spring semesters for the scholarship to be disbursed.
