Erik Skinner, Special Trustee
Erik Skinner was appointed as the Special Trustee for the Compton Community College
District by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors in June 2025. His
appointment is in accordance with Education Code Section 71093 and Title 5 Section
58312. As Special Trustee, Mr. Skinner is responsible for maintaining fiscal stability
and solvency, enforcing sound fiscal management principles, and supporting continued
accreditation efforts. He holds “stay and rescind” authority over actions related
to the district’s fiscal and accreditation recovery plans, while the Board of Trustees
retains local decision-making authority.
Mr. Skinner most recently served as Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Administrative
Services at Sierra Joint Community College District (JCCD), retiring in July 2024.
In that role, he oversaw the district’s budget, financial operations, facilities,
construction program, and emergency preparedness.
Previously, he held several leadership roles at the California Community Colleges
Chancellor’s Office, including Deputy Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for College Finance
and Facilities Planning, and Acting Chancellor. Earlier in his career, he served as
a Fiscal and Policy Analyst for the California Legislative Analyst’s Office and as
Assistant Secretary for Fiscal Policy in the Office of the Secretary of Education.
Mr. Skinner holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Grinnell College and a Master’s
in Public Policy from the University of Michigan.
