President/CEO Message

October 22, 2020

Campus Community,

It has been a long week, and we are still one day away from the weekend. Today, Kamilo Ali Curry asked me what we are going to do this weekend. I responded the same way I have been responding for the last six months, which is 'stay home.' I know many of you would love to be traveling, spending time with family and friends, or visiting the local beaches; however, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we operate as a country, state, and college. I want to thank you for everything you do in support of student success, especially during this time. I would also like to thank the UndocuAlly Taskforce for their efforts in executing this week's Undocumented Student Week of Action. The President/CEO Message - October 22, 2020, includes COVID-19 information and other campus-related updates.

Compton College Established Institutional-Set Goals

Compton College established Institutional-Set Goals to measure our progress toward the overarching goals and strategic initiatives outlined in the Compton College 2024 Plan and its annual goals for 2020-2021. These Institutional-Set Goals were defined by multiple stakeholders through Planning Summits in fall 2018 and spring 2019 and refined in the Compton College 2024 plan vetting process. Finally, they were updated in spring 2020 and reviewed during the spring 2020 Planning Summit. The Institutional-Set Goals were recently updated and accepted by the Compton CCD Board of Trustees at their October 20, 2020, Board meeting. The updated Compton College Institutional-Set Goals are available here

Final Thoughts

In my President/CEO Message- September 28, 2020, I mentioned the need to decide whether the 2021 Commencement Ceremony will be held in-person or virtually. On Thursday, November 5, 2020, the decision needs to be made to begin the planning process. Therefore, I am requesting feedback from faculty, staff, and students to be emailed to Andree Pacheco, Director of Student Development and Athletics, at apacheco@compton.edu by October 28, 2020. If you have not yet provided your feedback, please do so as soon as possible. At the October 26, 2020, Consultative Council meeting, we will be discussing the 2021 Compton College Commencement Ceremony.

Finally, at the October 20, 2020, Board of Trustees meeting, the Board of Trustees approved my recommendation to appoint Joann Higdon as the Interim Vice President of Administrative Services. Many of you know Joann Higdon, who was previously the Vice President of Administrative Services at El Camino College. Joann Higdon can be reached by email at jhigdon@compton.edu

Please be safe and have a wonderful Friday.
