This morning, I was informed of Elizabeth Martinez's retirement as the vice president of student services with Compton College. Elizabeth Martinez's last day with Compton College will be Monday, August 16, 2021, and her retirement is effective Monday, January 3, 2022. I have asked Rachelle Sasser, vice president of human resources, to begin the recruitment for filling this position. In a future President/CEO Message, I will provide updates on our timeline for filling this critical position. Please join me in thanking Elizabeth Martinez for her many contributions to Compton College and Compton Community College District.

Compton College COVID-19 Update

Los Angeles County's Daily COVID-19 Data webpage reports 1,059 newly recorded confirmed cases in Los Angeles County as of 6 p.m. on July 11, 2021. The county now has a total of 1,258,685 reported cases (including cases reported by Long Beach and Pasadena health departments). For more information, go to publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/data/. Compton College is operating at Level 3 - Moderate Infection Rate according to the Compton CCD Pandemic Outbreak - Emergency Operations Plan.

Summer and Fall 2021 Enrollment Update

As of today, July 12, 2021,  Compton College has generated:

  • 405 FTES for the Summer 2021 term.  Our fill rate is currently 68%, and our seats filled is 2,957.

  • 509 FTES for the Fall 2021 term. Our fill rate is currently 19%, and our seats filled is 3,165.

The fall semester begins Saturday, August 21, 2021, with weekday classes beginning on Monday, August 23, 2021. Please encourage students to apply and register as soon as possible as some sections are already full.

Compton College Virtual Tartar Talks

I will host a special virtual Tartar Talks on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. via Zoom Meeting. The focus will be on enrollment and recruitment. Please register here to participate.

The remaining 2021-2022 Tartar Talks are scheduled for September 21, 2021, November 23, 2021, February 22, 2022, and April 19, 2022. Please mark the 2021-2022 Virtual Tartar Talks on your calendars.

Compton Community College District Board of Trustees Meeting

The next Compton CCD Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 20, 2021. The closed session begins at 4:00 p.m., with the open session commencing at 5:00 p.m. via Zoom Meeting. Information on how to access the Compton CCD Board of Trustees meeting is available here.

Like many of you, I continue to monitor the spread of the Delta variant in California. If you or your family members have not already received the COVID-19 vaccine, I want to encourage you to consider receiving the vaccine. Faculty, Classified staff, managers/supervisors, students, and community members can call the St. John's Student Health Center at 213-640-8100 to make an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccination for free.
