First Year Experience Program



What are Learning Communities?

In Learning Communities, the subject matter of two or more classes are integrated. The classes may be designed around a unifying theme to reinforce the students' learning. Students and faculty learn from each other and build a sense of community.  In a learning community, students engage with the same group of students for more than one class period. This facilitates friendships because students support each other through the curriculum. Faculty also spend more time with students and emphasize goals for academic success.

Steps to apply to FYE:

  1. Complete the Compton College application: Application for Admission

  2. Complete the new student orientation to become familiar with the college and its resources.  This orientation can be completed online

  3. You must attend an FYE Intake Appointment.  Please e-mail Noemi Monterroso at nmonterroso@compton.edu to schedule an appointment.
