Dr. Schetema Nealy is a chemist and lifelong STEM enthusiast. She is proud to be the first African-American woman to earn a PhD in chemistry at UNLV. Her research focuses on understanding the best practices for encouraging and supporting the success of STEM students in higher education. Particularly, Dr. Nealy studied how the science identities of STEM students from underrepresented minority groups are affected by underrepresented minority STEM organizations, such as SWE and NSBE. She is now a Chemistry Professor at the Compton Community College and an adjunct researcher at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.
