Biography
Hello! I'm Susan Johnson
I was born and raised in Orange County California. I began my academic journey at Santa Ana College and later transferred to California State University of Fullerton where I earned my BA and MA in English. I worked in web design and programming while I attended school. Due to an accident just before I started graduate school, I was left with a permanent disability that limited my ability to continue working in programming.
I began my teaching career as a substitute high school teacher in graduate school. I taught at a variety of schools in Southern California (Mt. San Antonio, Santa Ana College, El Camino College, East LA College, and LA City College) before I found my way to Compton College.
I became a tenure track professor at Compton College in 2018, and I have never been happier. The students at Compton College are amazing, and I look forward to working with them every day. I want to aid them as they strive to reach their academic and life goals. In my English composition classes, I am always seeking ways to empower students to use their authentic voices in the work they create.
