July 23, 2020
Compton College has a long list of alumni, who have made significant contributions to our community, in the state, nationally, and worldwide. A couple of weeks ago, I was informed and confirmed that Congresswoman Karen Bass attended Compton College. Since 2013, Congresswoman Bass has served as the U.S. Representative for California's 37th congressional district. Congresswoman Bass previously served for six years in the California State Assembly, including the last two years as the Assembly Speaker. In the President/CEO Message - July 20, 2020, I mentioned the reestablishment of the Foundation for Compton Community College District. My first objective for the foundation is to establish a fundraising campaign for Compton College, and my second objective is to engage Compton College alumni with our campus community. The President/CEO Message - July 23, 2020, includes COVID-19 information and other campus-related updates.
Compton College COVID-19 Update
On July 22, 2020, California reported 12,801 new cases of COVID-19. The state now has a total of 413,576 positive cases. There have been a total of 7,870 deaths in the state. For more information, go to www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/Immunization/ncov2019. Compton College continues to operate at Level Four - Severe Infection Rate, according to the Compton CCD Pandemic Outbreak - Emergency Operations Plan.
Employee Telecommuting Update
In both the President/CEO Message - June 15, 2020, and the President/CEO Message - May 29, 2020, I mentioned that telecommuting would conclude on Friday, August 14, 2020, for all employees, noting that employees will incrementally return to campus during the summer term.
At this time, I do not want to set a date for the full restoration of operations on campus due to ever-changing pandemic conditions. We are currently in Phase 1 of the draft "Eventual Return to Campus" plan, which enables the gradual return of employees to campus. With the increase of positive COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County and the state of California, I will be extending Employee Telecommuting until further notice.
As I mentioned in the Consultative Council meeting on Monday, July 20, 2020, when employees are eventually required to return to campus, proper notice will be provided to the campus community. Until then, we will follow the Essential Employee Work Schedule that is updated weekly.
Essential Employees Work Schedule
The Essential Employees Work Schedule for July 27-30, 2020, is posted online here. The schedule will be updated every Thursday for the following week as employees continue to return to campus gradually.
Off-Campus Events and Conferences
As mentioned in my President/CEO Message - March 11, 2020, all non-essential travel for employees and students is restricted, including attendance of off-campus events and conferences. This policy has been extended through Friday, December 11, 2020.

We would like you to join the Pandemic Coordinators on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 3:30 p.m. to discuss the draft "Eventual Return to Campus" plan.
