President/CEO Message

August 3, 2020

Campus Community,

Before I arrived at Compton Community College on August 15, 2005, I served as the director for the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine), in the Early Academic Outreach Program. More information on the Early Academic Outreach Program is available here. While working at UC Irvine, I learned the value of educational partnerships, most importantly, how to build and maintain relationships within higher education. As stated in the President/CEO Message - July 16, 2020, I am focused on the reestablishment of the Foundation for Compton Community College District, and I am exploring our options for a Compton College five-year fundraising campaign to support student success. As we build the Foundation for Compton CCD, partnerships and relationships will be critical in identifying new members of the Board of Directors. The first meeting of the Foundation for Compton CCD Board of Directors will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at 6:00 p.m., via Zoom Meeting. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been working to identify potential members for the Compton CCD Board of Directors. If you would like to recommend someone to serve on the Board of Directions, please send your recommendations to kcurry@compton.edu. The President/CEO Message - August 3, 2020, includes COVID-19 information and other campus-related updates.

Final Thoughts
I have been thinking a lot about the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Call to Action, and Compton College’s response. Over the next couple of days, I will begin writing a draft response to the Call to Action, and Tina Kuperman, Director of Diversity, Compliance, and Title IX, will schedule a meeting with Compton College managers/supervisors regarding our draft response to the Call to Action. We will establish a task force to review and finalize the Compton College Call to Action Response document. The goal is to present the Compton College Call to Action Response document to the Compton CCD Board of Trustees at their Tuesday, October 20, 2020, Board meeting.

Finally, please click on this link to see the progress on Compton College construction projects. In the 2021-2022 year, Compton College will have three ribbon-cutting ceremonies for construction projects.

Sincerely,

Keith Curry, Ed.D.
