President/CEO Message

August 10, 2020

Campus Community,

Let the countdown begin toward the fall 2020 semester! I am anxious and ready for the 2020-2021 year. This will probably be our most challenging year as a college; however, I know we are prepared for what lies ahead of us. 2020-2021 will bring so many new opportunities, and it will challenge us to think differently as professionals, and as an organization. I recommended we all contemplate the 2020-2021 year with an open mind and focus on different ways we can improve our organization to address the needs of our students. The President/CEO Message - August 10, 2020, includes COVID-19 information and other campus-related updates.

Compton College COVID-19 Update
On August 8, 2020, California reported 8,373 new cases of COVID-19. The state now has a total of 554,160 positive cases. There has been a total of 10,293 deaths in the state. For more information, go to www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/Immunization/ncov2019. Compton College continues to operate at Level Four - Severe Infection Rate, according to the Compton CCD Pandemic Outbreak - Emergency Operations Plan.

Eventual Return to Campus Plan
The initial July 15, 2020, and the recently updated July 30, 2020, drafts of the "Eventual Return to Campus Plan" are available on the Compton College COVID-19 information webpage here. On Friday, August 7, 2020, the California Department of Public Health released the COVID-19 Industry Guidance for Institutions of Higher Education, which is available here. This document will provide us with additional guidance as we plan for the eventual return to campus. As of right now, our campus is telecommuting until further notice.

Campus Visits: One-Time Requests
Effective Thursday, August 20, 2020, a new online form will be available for employees requesting a one-time visit to the Compton College campus. This form is specifically for those who are not included in the Essential Employees Work Schedule.

Requests must be submitted at least two business days in advance, with manager/supervisor approval. Notification (request approved/denied) will be provided by the chief of police via your @compton.edu email. Campus visits are permitted from 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday; review the chart on the online form for department/office availability to determine when to schedule your visit.

Please note: This form does not replace the Facilities Request Form used for events, gatherings, or other facilities usage that require set-up, coordination with another department, or staffing.

Final Thoughts
This morning, I presented our Compton College 2024 Comprehensive Master Plan to academic and student services managers at Cuyamaca College's Pathways Workshop. I enjoyed talking about our implementation of the Tartar Completion by Design and Guided Pathways. I truly recognize the work everyone is involved in as it relates to the implementation of Guided Pathways. As an organization, we have come along way. However, I know Guided Pathways is a work in progress. As we enter year two of our implementation of Guided Pathways, we will continue to identify individual roles and responsibilities and figure out how to improve our processes.

Please be safe, as the countdown to fall 2020 continues.

Sincerely,

Keith Curry, Ed.D.
